TeslaTech Privacy
Tesla Credentials
At TeslaTech we understand your privacy concerns regarding your Tesla Credentials, after all they can be used to start your car.To build the logs the TeslaTech Cloud Archiver does need your Tesla credentials (login name and password). BUT, totally different from all other apps you'll find, the TeslaTech Cloud Archiver does NOT store your credentials on a internet database, your computer or your smartphone. Your Tesla credentials are stored in the internal flash memory of the TeslaTech Cloud Archiver CPU. That flash memory is NOT a seperate chip, it can not be read by anybody, not by the TeslaTech technicians, not by Atmel engineers. As an additional layer of security the data is stored encrypted. The TeslaTech Cloud Archiver is a real embedded system which does not run an OS and thus can not be hacked.
Furthermore you only have to enter the data once. You can do this on a local WiFi network between only the TeslaTech Cloud Archiver and your smartphone. For entering the credentials, there is no connection with the internet needed. The TeslaTech Cloud Archiver is your property, nobody can access the stored credentials remotely and you, as the owner, can always erase or change the credentials. Or you simple power-off the TeslaTech Cloud Archiver.
Although this system is highly secure, you might still prefer not to enter your Tesla Credentials. You can purchase the TeslaTech CAN Recorder which offers almost the same features but does not require your Tesla Credentials because the required data is read directly from the car's CAN bus. For security reasons the CAN Recorder does NOT have firmware to write on the CAN bus. (The TeslaTech CAN Recorder is currently under development).
Data Security on ThingSpeak
You create a personal account on ThingSpeak. TeslaTech, or anybody else, does not have access to your data. The TeslaTech Cloud Archiver uses a ThingSpeak generated API Key to read/write the data. The browser you use to view the graphs and tables uses the same ThingSpeak API key which can be stored on your computer or smartphone for faster access, but that's no requirement. You can change or remove all ThingSpeak keys at any time. The data stored on ThingSpeak is encoded and it's only logging data. Of course the Tesla Credentials are not stored in the ThingSpeak database.SSL access to the internet
The WiFi microprocessor we use only uses SSL connections (HTTPS) to ThingSpeak and the Tesla servers to retrieve or store data. Not many microprocessors do fully support SSL, but we've chosen a more expensive processor just to be sure SSL is 100% supported. The microprocessor does not run an operating system and can not be hacked. It's a real embedded system.User Configuration of Logs
The TeslaTech Cloud Archiver can build a log of your cars speed and location. This data is used to show tracks on a Google map. We understand this information is confidential and some users might not want it. That's why the logging can be disabled. Once disabled NO speed/location logging data is written anymore to the ThingSpeak database. You can erase all data at any time on your personal ThingSpeak account.Data Mining
In the near future we'll work on new features to show averages of all TeslaTech users. For example comparing acceleration graphs, consumption, ...Only users whom opt to use these features will also need to contribute data.
Why do I see data now without entering my API key
For demonstration purposes you'll see the data of one of the TeslaTech cars. Only the Google maps tracking is not real-time in the demo mode !Cookies
